MUSC 1045 Aural Theory II

Aural Theory II is a continuation of MUSC 1035. The student will develop ear-training and sight-singing skills with diatonic melodies in both major and minor modes as well as all possible diatonic triads. Prerequisites: completion of MUSC 1030 and MUSC 1035. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in MUSC 1040. (2 lab)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Accurately sing diatonic melodies that include intervals of a perfect octave or narrower including arpeggiation of the diatonic triads.

2. Accurately sing the major, harmonic minor, and melodic minor diatonic scales.

3. Notate accurate dictations of rhythms that use full-beat values as well as duple and triple subdivisions of the beat in simple meter.

4. Notate accurate dictations of diatonic melodies including stepwise motion, intervals of a perfect octave or narrower, and arpeggiations of diatonic triads.

5. Differentiate by ear intervals of a perfect octave or narrower.

6. Differentiate by ear all root-position diatonic triads in a major-key harmonic progression.
