Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Pass the safety exam with a score of 80% or higher to gain admittance to the welding lab.
2. Demonstrate safe working habits while in the welding lab.
3. Demonstrate proper equipment set-up and operation as it relates to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) on pipe.
4. Demonstrate a knowledge of machine settings for GMAW and FCAW applications on pipe.
5. Demonstrate a knowledge of various shielding gases and how they affect the weld when using the GMAW and FCAW process on pipe.
6. Demonstrate an understanding of the different modes of metal transfer and how they affect the weld when using the GMAW and FCAW process on pipe.
7. Produce quality GMAW and FCAW welds in various welding positions and joint configurations on pipe.
8. Use non-destructive and destructive test methods to determine weld quality and acceptability.
9. Demonstrate an understanding of electrode classification and selection for the GMAW and FCAW processes.
