OEAC 1258 Skiing and Snowboarding

This is a beginning level course for the student interested in lift-served downhill skiing or snowboarding. The student will practice safe ski and snowboard techniques for resort skiing and snowboarding. The course will also present an overview of equipment, proper clothing, waxing, and risk management techniques. All clothing and ski or snowboard equipment must meet instructor approval and must be provided by the student. (2 lab)

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Demonstrate the skill progression for responsible downhill skiing or snowboarding techniques at a ski resort.

2. Analyze strategies for mitigating the hazards of recreating in mountainous winter terrain.

3. Plan a day trip to a local ski resort.
