MGT 3000 Financial Analysis Budgeting

This course explores financial statements and how to analyze from internal and external perspectives. The course focuses on horizontal, vertical, and ratio analysis. The student will forecast financials, apply budgeting strategies, and address capital budgeting and working capital management theory using computer applications. The student will gain critical thinking and analysis skills revolving around financial literacy and its application in management and leadership positions. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze financial statements for sole proprietors, partnerships, and corporations using standard ratio analysis.

2. Create pro forma financial statements.

3. Analyze break-even and profit-setting calculations to make financial decisions.

4. Evaluate business financial decisions using time value of money tools/formulas for single sums, mixed streams, and annuities.

5. Formulate forecasting and budgeting strategies to provide information for financial management.

6. Create forecasts and budgets using forecasting tools such as moving average, weighted moving average, exponential smoothing, linear regression, and need for financing.

7. Evaluate capital budgeting techniques to determine the financial viability of a project.

8. Critique a business using analytical skills in areas of liquidity, efficiency, solvency, profitability, and market.
