In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Prepare examination and treatment rooms.
2. Identify the components of a patient screening, including a complete medical history.
3. Measure vital signs accurately.
4. Document patient care and patient teaching.
5. Identify principles of safe body mechanics and ergonomics to prevent injuries.
6. Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
7. Apply principles of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act to the clinical role of the medical assistant.
8. Explore procedures associated with medical specialty practices.
9. Describe radiographic equipment and procedures.
10. Demonstrate respect for individual diversity, including awareness of one's own biases related to gender, race, religion, age, disability, and economic status.
11. Apply principles of ethical behavior, including honesty and integrity.
12. Respond to emergency situations in an appropriate manner with consideration for the effects of stress on the individuals involved.
