MUSC 2045 Aural Theory IV

Aural Theory IV is the final course in aural theory sequence. The student will practice audiation of advanced chromatic, non-tonal, and twentieth century techniques through sight-singing and dictation activities. Prerequisite: completion of MUSC 2030 and MUSC 2035. Completion of or concurrent enrollment in MUSC 2040. (2 lab)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Accurately sing diatonic melodies that include pitches from augmented sixth chords and that imply modulations to distantly related keys.

2. Accurately perform subdivided and syncopated rhythms in complex meters.

3. Accurately sing non-diatonic melodies that utilize twentieth century techniques.

4. Notate accurate dictations of diatonic melodies that include pitches from augmented sixth chords and that imply modulations to distantly related keys.

5. Notate accurate dictations of melodies that utilize twentieth century techniques.

6. Notate accurate dictations of subdivided and syncopated rhythms in complex meters.

7. Differentiate by ear all diatonic chords and inversions in major or minor progressions.

8. Differentiate by ear dominant 7th, major 7th, minor 7th, half-diminished 7th, and fully-diminished 7th chords.
