CRMJ 3050 Cultural Diversity in Criminal Justice

This course offers a comprehensive, critical, and balanced examination of issues relating to cultural diversity including neuropsychological, generational, mental health, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, and physical ability. The student will examine strategies to encourage successful interactions and outcomes with people from these diverse populations both in the workplace and as criminal justice professionals. The student will evaluate crisis intervention techniques to improve the safety of professional service providers, individuals, and families. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze the plurality of cultural diversity and its influence on the workplace and criminal justice professionals.

2. Examine characteristics of different cultures to include neurodivergent, neuropsychological, generational, mental health, ethnic, race, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic, and physical ability.

3. Investigate strategies for professional and safe interactions with different cultures in both the workplace and the community.

4. Evaluate the influence of bias in interpersonal behavior and community relationships.

5. Evaluate how cultural diversity affects criminal justice systems and operations.
