CRMJ 3030 Liability and Risk Management

For many criminal justice and law enforcement agencies, risk management is a practice that seeks to identify and mitigate risk at multiple levels: the individual, the agency, and the public. The student will study how criminal justice organizations, in the course of executing their duties, may face liability for misconduct, harm, or violation of rights done to the individual or community. Risk management is a component of budget planning in law enforcement organizations. Every city, town, and municipality is vulnerable to risks associated with providing criminal justice and law enforcement services. One claim could devastate not only the local budget, but also public trust. (3 lect.)
