MGT 3110 Business Ethics

This course is designed to provide real world concepts and methods vital to building a career as an organizational leader and as an ethical decision maker. The course requires the student to grapple with issues of vital importance to all businesses, including responsibilities to business and society, ethical issues, ethical leadership, organizational governance, responsible decision making, and managerial and strategic decision making. Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Distinguish differences between ethical and moral dilemmas faced in business.

2. Summarize why ethical decisions are confusing, stressful, and risky.

3. Explore historical and current ethical principles and moral rules that govern and limit conduct in business.

4. Determine management and leadership methods used for interpreting and addressing ethical dilemmas in organizational decision-making.

5. Evaluate various types of unethical decisions and how they adversely affect stakeholders in business organizations.

6. Evaluate the ethical climate in an organization.

7. Critique competing theories of practical ethics, including your own ethical orientation, through a personal code of ethics.

8. Assess the decision-making process, which includes searching for alternatives, comparing and evaluating alternatives, and implementing decisions.

9. Construct a thorough discovery and defense of an ethical conflict currently affecting a specific industry with one or more possible solutions and the potential impact those solutions may have on others in the organization.
