OEAC 2030 Wilderness Backpacking:
This course teaches the wilderness user to practice responsible habits that promote the health and safety of self and others. The student is exposed to the theory and practice of outdoor leadership, teamwork, and expedition behavior. The student will live and travel in the wilderness within a framework of personal safety and care of the environment. The student will be instructed on how to apply the "Leave-No-Trace" philosophy. The student will apply principles of environmental ethics during the wilderness experience. (1-7 lect.) (Max 12)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Apply "Leave-No-Trace" techniques while camping and traveling.
2. Navigate with map and compass.
3. Apply risk management techniques for the local environment.
4. Examine natural history and basic local ecology.
5. Develop leadership skills.
6. Demonstrate proper expedition behavior.
7. Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication.
8. Develop group decision-making skills.
9. Demonstrate basic fly fishing and/or peak ascent techniques.
