CRMJ 1810 Defensive Tactics and Crisis De-Escalation
In the Defensive Tactics and Crisis De-Escalation course, also known as Custody and Control, the student will learn control techniques and de-escalation strategies. The course will provide the student with practical grappling and striking techniques through scenarios that will minimize bodily injury both to the subject and to the involved officer. The student will implement critical wrestling, judo, and jiu-jitsu maneuvers that should help an officer maintain his tools and firearm while detaining a subject. The Firearms Training Simulator will also be a core focus of the course training to utilize verbal de-escalation and force-option decision making. (2 lect., 2 lab)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

4. Apply effective and appropriate defensive techniques.
5. Utilize effective command presence and communication skills.
