Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Explain the principles of evolution and how they have led to the diversity of animal forms and functions.
2. Describe the diversity of animal life including the major phyla, classes, and representative species.
3. Compare and contrast the anatomical structures and physiological processes of different animal groups.
4. Examine the principles of animal behavior and the ecological and evolutionary contexts in which behaviors occur.
5. Analyze the roles of animals as components of communities and ecosystems.
6. Perform laboratory techniques and procedures relevant to the study of animal biology including microscopy, dissection, and physiological experiments.
7. Develop research skills by designing, conducting, and interpreting the results of experiments or observational studies in animal biology.
8. Communicate scientific information in written and oral forms.
