BADM 2010 Legal Environment of Business

This is an introductory survey course providing a broad overview of business-related legal issues. This course will examine the legal environment in which businesses operate including the nature and sources of law, court systems and alternate dispute resolution, constitutional law, business torts, criminal law, intellectual property, contracts, and business ethics. (3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Analyze sources of law, the courts and litigation processes, and various alternative dispute resolution methods.

2. Examine the legal environment within which businesses operate and ways to minimize risk and liability.

3. Examine the relationship between law and ethics as applied to business, corporate responsibility, and social responsibility.

4. Analyze criminal law, intellectual property law, and tort law within the business environment.

5. Explain the formation of contracts, the elements of a contract, and how contracts are breached, discharged, and enforced.
