CNTK 1926 Interior Trim: Molding

This course is designed to teach the student how to identify, select, and install trim used in finish work. The course also includes instruction on the layout and installation of suspended ceilings and related ceiling tile suspension systems. (1 lect., 2 lab)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Identify the different types of standard moldings and describe their uses.

2. Make square and miter cuts using a miter box or power miter saw.

3. Make coped joint cuts using a coping saw.

4. Select and properly use fasteners to install trim.

5. Install interior trim, including:

5a. Door trim

5b. Window trim

5c. Base trim

5d. Ceiling trim

6. Estimate the quantities of different trim materials required for selected rooms.

7. Establish a level line.

8. Explain the common terms related to sound waves and acoustical ceiling materials.

9. Identify the different types of suspended ceilings.

10. Interpret plans related to ceiling layout.

11. Sketch the ceiling layout for a basic suspended ceiling.

12. Perform a material takeoff for a suspended ceiling.

13. Install selected suspended ceilings.

These products may be hazardous if handled improperly. The student is required to follow established safety procedures and to consult Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) when necessary. The student must contact the instructor for guidance before using unknown materials or tools in class or on the work site. The student is required to possess basic personal safety equipment including eye and hearing protection and to wear shirts, long pants, supporting/protective footwear, and other clothing necessary to work safely at a construction shop/worksite. Failure to come to class prepared or failing to follow safe work procedures may result in summary dismissal from class.
