CNTK 1882 Interior:Taping, Mudding, Texturing
This course is designed to teach the student how to tape, mud, and texture interior drywall walls and ceilings in a residential structure. Instruction includes estimating material requirements and finishing the surface to meet industry standards. Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in
CNTK 1880. (1 lect., 2 lab).

- Drywall Finishing:
- a. Materials, tools, and methods used to finish and patch drywall. Includes coverage of both automatic and manual taping tools.
- b. Various types of problems that occur in drywall finishes, their causes, and solutions.
- c. Six levels of finish established by industry standards.
- d. Finish level by observation.
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Explain the differences between the six levels of finish established by industry standards and distinguish a finish level by observation.
2. Identify the hand tools used in drywall finishing and demonstrate the ability to use these tools.
3. Identify the automatic tools used in drywall finishing.
4. Identify the materials used in drywall finishing and state the purpose and use of each type of material, including:
4a. Compounds
4b. Joint reinforcing tapes
4c. Trim materials
4d. Textures and coatings
5. Demonstrate the ability to properly finish drywall using hand tools.
6. Recognize various types of problems that occur in drywall finishes and identify the cause and correct method for solving each type of problem.
7. Demonstrate the ability to patch damaged drywall.

During this course, the student should expect to be exposed to various tools, materials, substances, and liquids that are used in the construction industry. These products may be hazardous if handled improperly. The student is required to follow established safety procedures and to consult Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) when necessary. The student must contact the instructor for guidance before using unknown materials or tools in class or on the work site. The student is required to possess basic personal safety equipment including eye and hearing protection and to wear shirts, long pants, supporting/protective footwear, and other clothing necessary to work safely at a construction shop/worksite. Failure to come to class prepared or failing to follow safe work procedures may result in summary dismissal from class.
