MDIA 2202 Audio Production

In this course students will focus on the practical application of using various radio production elements; and the proper use and care of radio production equipment, such as an audio console, recording/playback equipment, and a digital editor. In addition, students apply different methods of planning, scripting, and editing radio audio commercial productions. Students should expect to spend a minimum of four hours per week participating in radio production activities for completion of on-air assignments. (3 lect.)

Major Topics

  • Proper use and care of radio production tools which may include, but it not limited to, various digital audio tools used in several different formats.
  • The methods of planning, scripting, and editing audio productions will be used in this course and more advanced techniques will be introduced as student’s progress through this course.
  • Students will be expected to use creative or different methods in planning, producing, and editing their projects individually.
  • Use of digital recording devices and digital editing software.

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Discuss the purpose of radio production and the process which is used to accomplish a production.

2. Discuss the various types of products that are created in the radio world.

3. Describe what elements go into various radio productions.

4. Discuss changes and evolution of radio production.

5. Master the use of technology in production, microphones, recorders, and Adobe Audition 3.0.

6. Effectively navigate the production rooms to create productions including proper audio levels.

7. Creation of effective scripts for radio production.

8. Discover methods of planning, recording, and editing a production.

9. Successfully capture audio remotely to bring back and employ in a radio production.

10. Proper use of audio tracks in multi track editing.

11. Create and use transitions effectively in a radio production.

12. Create several different audio projects throughout the semester.

13. Create a final project that uses all elements described above.
