ART 2310 Sculpture I

This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of sculpture. Traditional and contemporary concepts are investigated through a variety of medias. The development of ideas and concepts are encouraged through theory, criticism and historical reference. (2 lect., 4 lab) ARTS

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Create an abstract sculpture

2. Translate the figure into sculpture

3. Create a kinetic sculpture.

4. Create an environmental sculpture.

5. Create a sculpture inspired by nature.

6. Create a sculpture inspired by the landscape.

7. In the creation of 1-6, students will use a variety of processes including but not limited to: casting, additive, subtractive, collaborative and assemblage processes.

8. In the creation of 1-6 students will use a variety of media including but not limited to: clay, wood, plaster, metals, glass, and stone.

9. Analyze and discuss the artwork of historical and contemporary artists, fellow students, and their own artwork

10. Discuss a sculptor and his/her artwork

11. Make aesthetic and intellectual judgments on sculptural themes
