ANSC 2230 Livestock Judging III
This class is designed to coordinate with the Animal and Meat Evaluation, Livestock Judging I and II courses to continue the development of individual livestock judges toward collegiate competition. The student will be evaluated on their knowledge of breeds, ages, and sex classifications of livestock. The student will heighten their understanding of evaluation, classification, grading, and their usage in all segments of the animal industry. This is primarily a lab course. Prerequisite: Completion of ANSC 1220. (1 lect., 4 lab)

- Skeletal and muscular conformation of livestock species
- Economically important phenotypic traits of livestock species
- Selecting livestock based on the objective analysis of phenotypic traits
- Placing of the class of livestock
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Defend the placing of individual animals of a class of live beef cattle.
2. Defend the placing of individual animals of a class of live swine.
3. Defend the placing of individual animals of a class of live sheep.
4. Defend the placing of individual animals of a class of live goats.
5. Critique the performance of their peers in livestock judging.
