ART 1130 Foundations: Color Theory

This foundation level course explores the fundamentals of color in art. Specific projects are designed to give the student visual and practical experience in the use of color. Discussion will include color and its relationship to historical and contemporary cultures and artworks. (2 lect., 4 lab)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Create artwork that develops color relationships based on the elements and principles of design, color theory, color systems, and color strategies.

2. Formulate visual and intellectual judgments about color and composition within art.

3. Critique the use of color and composition in artworks from art history and peers.
