Keys to Online Success

Master Your Time: Online and web-based courses offer flexibility, but they require excellent time management. Expect to put in just as much - if not more - effort than a traditional face-to-face class. Check out our Online Student Guide for tips.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY: EARLY & OFTEN

Your success in an online environment depends on consistent interaction with your course material, classmates, and instructor. If you are struggling or falling behind, reach out to them immediately.

Best Practices for Contact:

  • Be Proactive: Ask questions and engage in conversations as often as possible.

  • Check Daily: Check your CWC email every day.

  • Use the Right Channel: Use the internal Canvas Inbox for direct messages to your instructors.

  • Be Clear: Always include your course number in the subject line of emails.

  • Manage Expectations: Expect a response within 24–48 hours, with the exceptions of weekends and holidays. Check the syllabus for specifics.

Can't Reach Your Instructor? If you have urgent course questions and cannot get in touch with your professor, contact the Teaching and Learning Department for assistance.

THE SYLLABUS IS YOUR COURSE MAP. Read it before the first day of class to know exactly what is expected. The syllabus is your comprehensive guide for the semester, containing:

  • Grading & Deadlines: The official course policies, due dates, and withdrawal information.

  • Instructor Contact: Your professor's communication policy and response time expectations.

  • Essential Support: Crucial links on how to request academic accommodations and digital accessibility support.
