CSMO 1700 Intro to Hair Technology

In this course the student will study the properties of the hair and scalp, color and growth patterns of hair. Hair loss and disorders of the scalp are taught. The student will gain knowledge and application of hair structure, hair design and styling. Prerequisites: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1701, CSMO 1702, and concurrent enrollment in CSMO 1705. (3 lect.)

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Identify the different structures and growth cycles of hair.

2. Identify common hair and scalp disorders and diseases.

3. Explain the scalp analysis process.

4. Describe the various treatments for dry, oily, and dandruff affected hair.

5. Explain the influence of hair type, texture, and face shape on hair design.

6. Explain the consultation process.

7. Examine various Chemical Texture services.

8. Analyze natural and artificial pigments of hair color using the color wheel and level system.

9. Apply knowledge of product chemistry to select, mix, and safely use cosmetic products.

10. Identify infection control procedures for all services introduced.
