TTD 1500 Novice CDL Training

The course is designed for the student with minimum or no previous driving experience in heavy truck or tractor/trailer combinations. The student will receive training in basic truck driving knowledge and skills, Department of Transportation (DOT) Rules and Regulations, maintaining a logbook, trip planning, and CDL test preparation. In addition, the student will receive a minimum of 20 hours of individualized behind the wheel heavy truck tractor/trailer driving instruction. Prior to enrolling in the course the student must have a commercial driving permit, must pass drug-screening tests, and must possess the physical abilities necessary for the truck driving industry. The student must pass the CDL-A test in order to successfully complete the course. Training requirements are set forth in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation for entry-level driver training in accordance with 49 CFR 380 503. S/U grading only. (2 lect., 6 lab)

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of all safe operating practices in operating a truck and trailer combination vehicle

2. Practice driver wellness nutrition and health recommendations

3. Demonstrate competencies in all basic vehicle operations

4. Exhibit proficiency in all behind the wheel operations

5. Explain hazards and mitigation of dangers associated with extreme driving conditions

6. Demonstrate knowledge of non-driving activities associated with a CDL

7. Successfully complete assessments of regulations with an 80% or greater proficiency
