ENGL 2230 Intro to Shakespeare

This course is a study of selected plays, poems, and sonnets of Shakespeare, with concentration upon tragedies, comedies, and historical plays. While studying the plays and other writings as works of literature, the student is encouraged to consider them in the context of the times and audiences for which they were written. Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 1010. (3 lect.) HUM

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

2. Interpret meanings and making critical evaluations of academic and creative works

3. Discuss various theories and literary elements

4. Describe theatrical conventions of the Elizabethan Age

5. Use research and critical thinking to communicate their understanding of the literature

6. Express an understanding and intellectual appreciation of the cultural (i.e. social, historical, political, philosophical, aesthetic and religious) context of the literature

7. Discuss the effect of Shakespeare one the modern world and other time periods

8. Describe the cultural assumptions inherent in Shakespeare's work
