HIST 2060 Topics in History:

This course focuses on special topics that fall outside the traditional chronological and geographical offerings in history. Specific content varies from semester to semester in accordance with faculty interest and student demand. This course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits applicable toward graduation. (1-3 lect.)

Outcomes

In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:

1. Research and discuss a specific period or theme of history. Critically assess the most prominent literature and other historical sources associated with the historical period or theme. Demonstrate a high degree of understanding of the specific topic chosen.

2. Understand the beliefs and values of the cultures studied. Analyze the cultural, historical, philosophical, religious, and other impacts of the chosen period or theme on the wider scope of human history and civilization.

3. Become familiar with historiography, and the principles and standards unique to the academic field of history.

4. Gather historical information and evaluate it for its usefulness, analyze data, formulate and express conclusions regarding the specific topic of study. Employ appropriate techniques for research and writing, proper citation of sources, etc.

5. Complete sufficient examination of the course topic to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the theme or region studied.

1. Students will employ current technology as part of their research. 2. Students will present and discuss their research in class via both informal discussion and formal presentations.
