FILM 2300 Directing
This course introduces students to the language and craft of film directing. Students apply techniques to communicate and collaborate effectively with their actors and crew. Students demonstrate unique ways that a director approaches visual storytelling and how the director manages the task of staging scenes, and moving actors within the frame. Prerequisite: Completion of
FILM 2100. (3 lect.)

Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Create visual storytelling by translating words on a page into an engaging visual scene.
2. Direct in a variety of styles for film and television.
3. Develop an approach for working with actors and collaborators to get from script to screen.
4. Explain common directorial mistakes and traps.
5. Evaluate a director’s performance avoiding common directorial mistakes and traps.
