WELD 1975 Independent Study - Welding
This course is designed as an open-entry/open-exit course to assist welders who have sufficient background to update their welding skills following a mutually agreed upon education plan. This course may be repeated for a maximum of 6 credits applicable toward graduation. Prerequisite: Contact the instructor for a skill level placement test for admittance into the course. (2 lab, 4 lab, or 6 lab) (Max 6)
Major Topics
- Safe work habits and clean-up.
- Attendance and responsibility
- Welding projects of their choice.
- Consistent in practicing skills and improvement.
- Completion of welding projects.
Outcomes
In order to successfully complete this course, the student will:
1. Demonstrate maintaining safe work habits.
2. Develop a educational plan that addresses skills to be updated
3. Set-up and prepare work area for the task at hand.
4. Complete educational plan

Any information placed here must be adhered to by all instructors:
Personal supplies are to be provided by the welding student:
1. Safety glasses whether prescription or not.
2. Welding helmet
3. Replacement lens for welding helmet
4. Oxy-fuel cutting goggles or face shield with #5 shade
5. Welding gloves, full-length leathers, or appropriate protective clothing.
6. Appropriate footwear; steel-toe boot preferred.
**NO TENNIS SHOES**
7. Hard hat or other suitable head covering.
Tools required for this course include the following:
1. Metal tool box
2. 10" crescent wrench
3. Channel lock or plumbers pliers
4. Soap stone or metal marking pencil
5. 10’ or 25’ tape measure
6. Tip cleaner
7. Wise-grip pliers
8. Chipping hammer
9. Wire brush
10. Combination square
11. Heavy duty 6" C-clamp
